Why cellulose acetate?
At Palett, each cellulose acetate hair clip is cut from a material that has nothing to do with the plastic used in cheap accessories. This is what gives our colors their depth, their changing reflections, and that dense, warm feel—impossible to achieve with injected plastic.
A precious material
Cellulose acetate is a material of plant origin: made from wood and cotton cellulose, transformed by contact with acetic acid. Deeper and more vibrant than injected plastic, it has been used for decades by major high-end eyewear brands.
Unlike petroleum-based plastic cast in a mold, acetate is worked in sheets: it has unique veins, shades, and reflections. No two pairs of glasses are exactly alike.
From plant to plate
Wood and cotton cellulose is first transformed into flakes. Coloured and then pressed, they form marbled sheets from which our colours are created. Each clip is then shaped one by one, before being hand-polished to a deep shine.
